After graduation I moved to North Carolina to obtain a teaching degree from UNC/FSU to teach in Sumter, South Carolina for three years. During that time found my second passion for photography. Left teaching to start my own studio (Matthew Thomas Photography) which is located in the Dutch Square Mall area. Photographer, CarolinaNightlife.comI studied B/W photography using back then a regular SLR 35mm with interchangeable lenses and filters for colors and effects. I took pictures for the college newspaper sports section and developed my own film in a dark room. After college I began to work part time at a local photo studio developing films, B/W of course and making special order prints. I then moved on to the TV production business and attended The Center for the Media Arts in NYC. Worked as a camera operator and video technician/editor until I joined the Navy in 1992.

I've loved to shoot for as long as I can remember and have always found motivation in capturing the world around me. I picked up my first digital SLR 5 years ago and since then have found myself completely taken with digital photography. I shoot commercial, product, fashion, weddings, senior photos, and special events.
