Hi guys! This is Logan and Eric, we are new to the Carolina Nightlife Staff and are definitely happy to be here. Somehow we have been given the best job ever, going to local bars and restaurants where we will be eating drinking in order to steer you in the right direction… here is our first bit of advice:
22 North Wrightsville Beach, NC… get to know this address if you"re looking for quality local cuisine. It may be generally recognized as the successor to the infamous Clarence Fosters beach bar, but do not fall prey to this misconception. Along with the changing of ownership so came the changing of focus from mere beer guzzling to providing Wrightsville beach with fine homemade seafood fare.
You can find 22 North on N. Lumina Avenue, set in the midst of other eateries and shops. Being only a block from the beach, the atmosphere is laid back and inviting" even tourists get to feel like locals. The interior is a mix of white tablecloths and beach murals creating a relaxed yet classy environment in which to dine. The staff is a major contribution to the inviting feel. They are friendly and attentive, making you feel like more like welcome guests than paying patrons. Jimmy, the owner can be seen making rounds talking to diners.
Though the service and atmosphere are impeccable, the clear standout here is the food. Local fish takes center stage on the menu, making the short journey from local waters to your table. Motts Channel Seafood Market provides 22 North with seasonal fish and shrimp. Because of the seasonal availability of fish, the menu is ever changing, guarantying frequenting locals a variety of dishes.
After polishing off the entire basket of homemade wheat and cornbread, we moved on to the entrees. We decided to get to best of both worlds and share the Mahi Mahi and Shrimp Skewers. The large portion of Mahi was cooked to perfection and covered in an herb butter sauce. An amazing pineapple ginger sauce that was a winner in 2004"s annual Wing Fling accompanied the shrimp skewer. Along side the entrees came both a fresh green salad with homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing and hands down the best mashed potatoes ever! As a side note, it is Eric"s firm belief that a restaurant can be judged on its quality of mashed potatoes, and he was more than happy.
We struggled to find room for dessert after eating pretty much all of the food on our massive plates, but we couldn"t let you guys down" so we pushed forward and ordered three desserts. All the desserts are made from scratch, and include such selections as Chocolate Decadence, Pineapple Crisp, and Bread Pudding. If forced to choose only one". we couldn't.
The area you may be most familiar with, the bar, provides nightly drink specials unlike many other local nightspots. They maintain the high standards yet laid back atmosphere just like the restaurant. A highlight for many is Wednesday nights, which offers half price martinis. Be sure to check the website for 22's nightly specials.
You can catch us working out to burn those calories so we can keep eating to keep you informed. Until next week… Logan and Eric out.
