Just so you know I didn"t even go out this past weekend. Reason being, I was not ready to taint the memory of the most amazing DJ performance I have ever heard the weekend prior. So what makes it the most amazing DJ performance ever" Let me answer that question with another question. You know that feeling you get when you are at a club, and the DJ plays a song you like" Now imagine having that feeling for the whole night, and then having that feeling intensified 3 or 4 fold when you hear those favorite songs mixed together in ways you never thought possible. For example: remixing Crooklyn Clan"s Thug Anthem 2000 ( which is a mix of DMX and Puff Daddy) with Franz Ferdinand"s "Take Me Out" and then mixing that with Beastie Boys "Triple Trouble". Well you can stop imagining now, because I actually heard it with my own ears and it was amazing! This was one of many awesome mixes performed by DJ AM.
DJ AM played his first Carolina performance this past Friday, April 15th at Crush in Charlotte NC. If you were not there, I feel really sorry for you. ( I feel even sorrier for the people that opted to go on the lazydogs bar crawl) First let me tell you that a DJ AM "set" transcends genres and even time. The songs ranged from Bob Marley"s "Could You Be Loved" to Nu Shooz"s skating rink classic "I Can"t Wait" to Nirvana"s "Come As You Are" to Gwen Stefani"s latest hit. DJ AM keeps this broad range of good music coming at you served up with a delicious hip hop flavor. Now what really amazed me about DJ AM is that he actually got me dancing! I"m a geeky white boy that loves hip hop, but I am very conscientious about my lack of "natural groove" and dancing ability. Usually I just like chilling at the bar, talking to my friends, watching other people dance, and bobbing my head occasionally to songs I like. Well with DJ AM, the usual went right out the window. This guy had not been on for 10 minutes and I was in the middle of the floor bumping and grinding with some chick like I was in a Ludacris video. That"s how captivating his talent is!
I guess I could go on forever trying to describe the phenomenon that is DJ AM. Instead I"ll make it much easier. You can go to his website and download a LIVE 2 hour set he recorded from Concorde (Hollywood Club). You can get it by going here:
http://www.dj-am.com/concorde.zip
Of course his main site is http://www.dj-am.com
This is a big file, but well worth the wait. (168 MB) I downloaded this the day of the show, and it has stayed on heavy rotation in my car, home, and office. Also check out his resume. Everyone from Will Smith to Papa Roach to Baby Face (that"s Mr. Face to you) has turned to DJ AM when they wanted the best for their album. Chances are you have heard some of his work. So be on the lookout for more great things from this mixing mastermind. I am hoping that he comes back to the Carolinas, and if and when he does" IT IS NOT TO BE MISSED! I have a feeling however that it"s going to be a long wait. I just found a weekend e-saver on US Airways, Charlotte to Vegas roundtrip only 218$. DJ AM plays almost every weekend in Vegas. Quick weekend getaway anyone" I am definitely game!
