Monday nights are not exactly the night you would think the crowds go out. You have to really pick and chose your spots on Monday to find exactly what you are looking for. Well, for me, I like it laid back and easy going. Not too fancy and not too ordinary.
The place is Flying Saucer in the University area. Monday nights are their $2.50 pint drafts. With over two hundred beers from all over the world on draft, you can imagine they will have something you will like. From what I could tell the house favorite is a Blue Moon with a little orange peel as a garnish. Half the bar was drinking one of those.
I spoke with the manager Josh and the bartender Jason for a bit and learned this is more than just a place to drink. This is a place where they want you to join the family. Well, the UFO Club family that is.
The UFO Club is a group of people that are all trying to treat themselves to every different beer selection Flying Saucer has to offer. With a three drink limit for each visit, the Flying Saucer serves up a lesson in world beers each night these UFO"ers come in. Want to make a name for yourself" Drink all 200 and some odd beers and get your plaque on the wall as an official member of the club. Do it again and again and show your true "colors". The walls of Flying Saucer are adorned with different color plate plaques that represent how many times that club member has had all 200 and so beers.
You would think 200 and so odd beers at three beers a night would take a person a long time. At least I thought so, until I saw the walls in this place. Hundreds of people have plaques on the wall, a lot of them with colors signifying they have made the journey through Flying Saucer"s menu of beers more than once. One fella has even got the blue plate, signifying that he has gone through all 200 and some odd beers four (4) times!! Let me do the math" that"s 600 and some odd beers that guy has drank. To you, if you read this, drop us an email.
Well, that"s all for now. Make sure you check out Flying Saucer on a Monday for $2.50 pint drafts or any Thursday, Friday or Saturday for live music.
