By now I am sure you have all heard about the big grand opening of The Forum tonight. Carolina Nightlife had the privilege to attend the preview party on Wed. night. This was an invite only event, yet they had 1300 people through the door! I can only imagine tonight is going to be even crazier with it being open to the general public. My advice, get there early". REAL EARLY!
So I want to tell you about Wed. night. If I had to use one sentence to describe it, it would be: "They did that RIGHT!" I arrived around 7:05pm to catch the end of the ribbon cutting ceremony. There was a bit of a line to get in. I found this rather humorous because it consisted of Charlotte"s VIPs who are not accustomed to waiting in line.
Before I walked through the door, I noticed a lady decked out in rock star garb straddling a Harley. I was later told that the nights theme was "Biker Babes." When I finally walked in, I was taken aback. I was expecting a "prettied up" version of Mythos, and it was anything but! The place had been completely transformed. It reminded me of the mega club in London, Tiger Tiger. Believe me, this place will overload your senses. The walls have a metallic look that sport eclectic art, and plasma tvs showing clips from what appeared to be a 70"s LSD orgy. The gleaming hardwoods shined so bright, I was wishing I had brought some sunglasses. This was well thought out, and I"m sure it will win some kind of interior architecture/design award in the future.
The buffet they had from 7-9 was exquisite! I enjoyed juicy steak and chicken kabobs, a vegetable platter with various dips, and there was some kind of fancy sauce but I could not tell you what it was. There were various pastries for dessert, but I did not try those. Now that I was full, it was time to "clock in" and start drinking. The Forum makes getting a drink very easy! There were 3 large bars on the first floor, a smaller one on the upstairs balcony, and then another large one on the roof outside. Don"t feel like moving" You are in luck! There are sexy cocktail waitresses that you can order from at anytime. The Pravda lounge was my favorite section. This is an "ice bar" that has a lot of couches and tables and its own separate DJ (Bob Schaffer rocks btw!) What is an ice bar you ask" Good question, because I didn"t know either. Basically there is a slab of ice that covers the entire length of the bar. You keep your drinks on it, and they stay cold. Really cool idea.
Another thing I really liked was the "human art." Remember the lady on the Harley I told you about" Well there were more inside. The Forum is a metaclub. This means that the club is always changing and is multifunctional. It is available for business meetings, wedding receptions, luncheons and other daytime events. As I said earlier, the nights theme was "Biker Babes", but will be something different for tonight. There is an elevated stage in the main dance floor area, so I wouldn"t be surprised if there are some special performances from time to time.
Overall I was very impressed. This truely was a unique event that included such celebrities like: Emeka Okafor, Kurt Busch, Will Ferell and Craig Brandon. It was clear to me that a lot of time, effort, and thought has been put into The Forum. This club has a lot to offer, and I am pretty sure its going to be on my "favorite" list very soon.
