Halloween in the Queen City was crazy this year! And I"m not talking about just the evening of" I"m talking about the entire week leading up to it. That"s the cool thing when the actual holiday is on an off night like Monday. It ends up turning into a week long costume party! I noticed people were dressing up as early as the 22nd! (see the Ri Ra"s album) and then all week long it was one Halloween party after another. The albums from Time, Sky, Crush, and Liquid show some great costumes! I was unable to partake in the festivities until Friday night" so that"s where I"m going to pick up. I started Friday night out at Velocity. Top Down was having a Mega DJ Halloween party entitled Scream. I got there a bit early, but the place got packed real fast! I know Charles touched on this in an earlier article, but I have to talk about it again. Video on the screen mixing to what the DJ is playing is really cool! At Velocity, they had all kinds of footage from scary movies. They even had the evil video transmission from Halloween 3, which made all the Silver Shamrock masks kill the kids who were wearing them. Fortunately for me I was not wearing a Silver Shamrock mask this year. Nope, I was dressed as the one and only Hunter S Thompson (The guy Johnny Depp played in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) I must say it was a very convincing costume, because all night long everyone kept asking me if I had brought my drug collection. I thought this was funny, because no drugs were needed at this event" all kinds of crazy stuff were going on.
After my buddy Captain Morgan loosened me up a bit, it was time to shake it on the dance floor. I didn"t get too far before one of these crazy things caught my attention. There was a breakdance battle between the villain from Saw 2 and the stoned ghoul from Scary Movie 2 " now that"s trippy! The majority of the crowd had some type of costume on, and quite a few went to the full nines on their outfits. This one guy I saw had all kinds of lights and glowing things on this futuristic looking suit. He looked like he was straight out of the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (break the deal, face the wheel!) I also saw someone dressed up as a giant penguin, the Super Mario Brothers, the Insane Clown Posse, and other stuff that I don"t even know how to begin to describe. The ladies though" they stole the show. There were so many crazy, skimpy, sexy outfits" I thought I was going to lose my mind! It was like I was Pavlov"s dog, and the bell just kept on ringing! I know a lot of those outfits came from The Red Door, so I"ll just say" THANKS RED DOOR!
As 2am approached, my buddy Liz expressed an interest in leaving and getting some grub. I was in total agreement, so we rolled on out of there. I was craving food of the breakfast type, and when it is this late on the weekend" THERE IS ONLY ONE PLACE TO GO! THE MEN"S CLUB! Strippers or no strippers, that is the best breakfast buffet in town! I had eggs, grits, cinnamon swirled french toast, an egg mcmuffin, and home fries. That really hits the spot! If you haven"t been yet, GO!
Saturday Night proved even more exciting than the last. I started the night at the Carolina Nightlife party at Liquid Lounge. I was with my buddy Liz, but this time she brought a few of her friends. I dressed as Hunter S Thompson again, and was accompanied by a sex kitten, a geisha, and the pink panty fairy! The party at Liquid was literally off the chain! Everyone was dressed up, and the costumes were great! I saw Napoleon Dynamite, one of the fighters from Enter the Dragon (Bruce Lee film), Braveheart, some Hooter Trannies, Gilligan, Michael Jackson, Debbie Does Dallas, The Ricola Chicks, and my favorite Scooby Doo and Velma. It was really funny to see Scooby and Velma grinding on the dance floor. And of course like last night" the ladies stole the show! I mean there were probably at least 10 girls walking around in jaw dropping lingerie. DJ Suspence had the crowd going crazy, and played a great set. My only disappointment is there was no DJ on the patio. As I have mentioned before, I like having 2 DJs that I can pick from, and Liquid usually has it set up like that. Overall though, the party was out of sight! Way to go Hunter!
We stayed at Liquid Lounge till around 12:30 and then decided it was time to change it up a bit. The group decided on Menage, and I later found out that it was a solid decision. We walked right into Menage with no trouble. The downstairs lounge was not too crowded, so at first I assumed it was dead. This of course WAS NOT the case" everyone and their brother was upstairs! The dance floor was packed and like the other places I had been" the majority had a great costume! The staff was decked out as well" especially the Menage dancers that I have seen so many photos of. Much better experience in person! Menage is definitely a place I will visit a bit more frequently. Now I have to take a second and give props to my buddy Liz! She started feeling ill due to something wrong with her eyes. She didn"t feel like staying out, but didn"t want to ruin things for the rest of us" so she was like.. "I"m going downstairs to rest, you guys have fun." That is hardcore awesome! I know other people that would have insisted on projecting their misery on the group. You ROCK, Liz! And we all owe you one! So after the party was over at Menage" we decided to call it a night. I was pretty trashed by then.. but I remember having to give up my shoes, and walking all the way from Menage to Post Gateway in my socks while giving the pink panty fairy a piggy back ride. (WTF were those wings for"") That probably would have made for a funny photo.
After all that partying.. I could not even think about going out Sunday, or even on actual Halloween. There were a lot more awesome parties than I mentioned. You need to check out Albums from Crush, The Forum, Tipsey"s, Sky, CarnEvil at Jeff"s Bucketshop, Phils, and last but not least.. the ones from City Bar in Charleston! This Halloween was the bomb, and I cannot wait till next year!
