What"s up nightlife fam" It has been awhile I know, but it"s been a tough month for me. First of all I must warn you! Never eat at the Sarku Japan in Carolina Place mall. If you do, thou will most certainly perish! I contracted campylobacter (pronounced kam"-peh-low-bak-ter) from the food there (you get it from chicken), and it took me almost 3 weeks to fully recover" not fun! You can check out the surprise inspection results they got yesterday as a result of my complaint… not good!
Now with that public DIS-service announcement out of the way, let us get to the nightlife. Seeing as how I haven"t been out in weeks, I"m going to have to talk about stuff I did last month, but never wrote about. Nevertheless, you should find it applicable to your weekend plans.
First subject is Tutto Mondos! This place isn"t a secret any more! I went on a Friday night and it was packed, not just packed" but packed with like a 7 to 1 girl guy ratio, and then add to that fact, 50% of the guys there were gay! In the past, Tuttos was just a spot to start out, on this night" it was "The Spot!" My friends literally had to drag me out of there. Tutto Mondos is not your typical uptown joint. It is a classy, upscale lounge, with great décor, talented DJs, and excellent martinis! The crowd is more sophisticated than average, and the majority are 25+ professionals. You are not going to find obnoxiously drunk, screeching, college chicks here. Now that warmer weather is upon us, you can expect their porch area to be a party!
Next on the list is The Forum! All I can say is things were run very smoothly. It was crowded, but I had no problem getting around where I wanted to go. I noticed that their staff retention is above average. The majority of the bartenders and cocktail waitresses I saw opening night are still there. That makes for a quality experience over time. Next door at Pravda, Bob Shaffer was "killing it" as usual. If I had to choose the most underrated DJ in Charlotte, Bob would get my vote. There were a lot of haters on the message board saying that The Forum would fizzle out quick" well we now know that"s not true. I have yet to catch a Thursday night at Pravda, but it IS on my "to do" list. I"ll report on that experience soon.
So what"s up with the late night action" Well since Sky became Eden" it is no longer at Lava. Eden is open until 4 for a 10$ cover. I"m not sure I like this change. Lava was always the late night place! The smaller area made you feel like you were at some exclusive speakeasy" plus it had a more intimate atmosphere. I"m not saying Eden sucks, just that I like Lava better. The night I was there, they had some pretty good DJs. The only staffer I recognized was Sickboy, and he told me the current DJ was named Frasier. Frasier was playing "old skool" hip hop, and I about shat myself when he busted out with Souls Of Mischief"s, "93 "til Infinity." I don"t think I have ever heard that played in a club. Eden"s new layout is definitely an improvement over the old Sky. Maybe Eden will grow on me" but deep down I can"t lie, I want to go to Lava after 2" or Koko"s apartment" either way I can get a hookah!
So if you can"t decide on what to do this weekend" check out the above mentioned places, and share your experiences on the message board.
"til whenever".
