We had a few words with Dieter Schmitz from the popular show Laguna Beach today. After this past week"s appearance at Time Lounge he has done nothing but move on to the next big party city. It is one party after another for Dieter these days. We can say after speaking with him that these days it"s the same ole" stuff, just a different day for Dieter.
Here is what he had to say"
CNL: How did you get your start in acting"
DIETER: Acting" I think its funny everyone thinks we were acting. I can tell you I never acted on the show, we had a lot of fun but if any of my bros ever changed who they were or vice versa we would have smacked each other. So yeah, the show was just my life no acting but I was always in little small parts thru high school and have done 3 fun small low budget movies. I really like the whole business and the camera doesn’t really scare me after the show. Might go into the porn movie industry make a movie “The Real Reallllllll OC” or something like that. Haha.
CNL: How did you end up on Laguna Beach"
DIETER: I was born and raised in Laguna, best friends with Stephen and Trey since 1st grade. When they came Stephen was with Kristen I had been with Jessica for a year. We were the group that liked to party and have fun so it all worked out. I don’t think we ever thought people would watch our lives and that the show would be so big, I think when it"s all over we can look back and trip out for sure.
CNL: After the show, you started a charity. Want to tell us a little bit about it"
DIETER: After the 1st season I started Running Home 4 Teens (www.RH4T.com), a non profit for depressed and suicidal teens. We raised thousands for SAVE a great education and counseling group. The first year I went 75 miles then this year in December I went from Mexico to Laguna, 115 miles which really hurt. The charity was an awesome experience and it got so huge it was amazing! It was the best thing I have ever done. Suicide and depression is a huge problem in our country especially this age group so it was a great thing to fight for these two years.
CNL: What was it like growing up in Laguna Beach"
DIETER: One word…...surreal. We all call it the bubble because everything is so different from the real world. I mean I watched the waves break in every class at high school out the window. It"s a joke. We really lived the life, sports, partying 24/7. It was a fun place to grow up. The girls are pretty hard to beat but then again, their brains kind of cancel that out. HAHA. So there’s a definite medium out there that’s better. I’ve said a lot in interviews I wouldn’t want to raise my kids in Laguna because I want them to grow up in a city that represents the real world. Not every 16 year old gets a 06 beamer for their birthday.
CNL: You are now traveling on tour all over the place. Mostly partying at big clubs across the country and abroad! How crazy does life get being in a different city each week just to party"
DIETER: It"s a hard life. HAHA. I mean shit…what can you say I get to visit all these epic cities and meet great people and party…..I could never ever complain. If I’m 80 in a rocking chair I don’t want to look back and regret a thing so right now I’m making sure to live it up as much as I can. It"s been a really awesome time. Sometimes I do get tired but I go around with Jessica so that makes it fun. We fight every single night so it entertains the clubs as well. HAHA.
CNL: Where are you going from here" Got any big plans for this year"
DIETER: Still the show every now and then. I am doing this tour thru August and then it will be a sit down and evaluate time. I have a movie coming out in a couple of months. I think I had 3 lines but still its fun to see. So its this tour and then to tell you the truth I want to go back to school. I signed with a great commercial agency but in between that and school I kind of want to get the college experience. This has all been great but college is a time you can never replace. Plus I need to find a girlfriend, time for me to settle down. HAHA. Basically I don’t want to be one of those reality guys that can’t call it quits. I’m done in august, no surreal life for me.
CNL: Well Dieter, thanks for the chat and we look forward to having you back in the Carolinas soon!
