Anybody who knows Charlotte nightlife, knows Dixie"s Tavern for their uncanny reputation of being one of the best bars in downtown Charlotte. But I"m here to change all of that and also declare them one of the best uptown restaurants as well! Carolina Nightlife was recently given the opportunity to sample and review Dixie"s new food menu. When a restaurant is looking to change its image you"ve got to go all out! Dixie"s has definitely accomplished this by adding 25 new items to their menu. Out with the old and in with the new! Lets first start off with some appetizers; crab cakes, sweet corn fritters and the crab and shrimp dip. The crab cakes were HUGE and exploding with chunks of crab! Served with a side of tartar sauce, these offer the start to a filling meal. If you"re dining with your friends and wanting to split an appetizer, I recommend the crab and shrimp dip. Topped with a very nice cheese blend and served with colored tortillas, this appetizer is sure to do the trick to cure your munchies. The sweet corn fritters were new to me, I didn"t really care for them that much, but if you"ve ever had them before then make sure to place an order for these to start out. On to the entrees! Even before we had even made a dent in the appetizers, four very delicious entrees were set down in front of us. After making some room on the table, we decided to start out with the French Dip. This was by far one of our favorites! This sandwich is piled high with roast beef, onions and mushrooms covered with melted provolone cheese. Like the name says, make sure you go all the way and take a dip in the delicious au jus and then wash it all down with a cold Miller Lite! Next was the Pulled Pork sandwich with a vinegar based sauce. Straight from the south, this sandwich kills any hunger attack! We then decided to try out the Grilled Salmon Dinner. Grilled with a special lemon pepper seasoning and bursting with flavor, this is one fish you could eat over and over and over! With barely any room in our stomachs, the Fall Off The Bone Ribs were next! These ribs stick true to their name and are covered in an AMAZING sweet and spicy sauce with jerk seasoning to give you a little kick! These ribs were very filling and by far another favorite. After all of this food, I doubted if I could take another bite! But then we were greeted with a Dixie"s original dessert, the "It"s BANANAS Foster". I know you"re thinking it so I"m going to go ahead and say it"THIS SHIT IS BANANAS, B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Layered with warm bread pudding, bananas, chocolate morsels and topped with caramel, chocolate syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and served in a martini glass, this dessert is hands down the perfect finish to a great meal. With the premier of their new menu, Dixie"s is also looking to hire some new faces. So stop on in to Dixie"s Tavern uptown and indulge yourself in the new menu and if you think you have what it takes, pick up an application while you"re there. New Hours!
