If there were commandments for the clubbing scene, that would be number one! If this guy comes within a 200 mile radius of where you live, you should go! So this means you Raleigh, Greensboro, Wilmington, Columbia, Greenville, Charleston, and all the places in between! One of the top clubs here in Charlotte, The Forum, is celebrating their 1st Anniversary on Friday Sept 29th. The headlining DJ for this mega-extravaganza is none other than DJ AM. Believe me now when I say, "YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS!" DJ AM has not played in Charlotte since April of 04, and I doubt he will be back any time soon. He normally does gigs like movie premier after parties, or national events like the Billboard Music Awards! This party will be my 4th AM show, and I am anxious with anticipation! The sets he plays are literally out of this world. He is not bound by any genre, and takes songs you know and love, then mixes and mashes them up in ways you won"t believe. The first time I heard him play, I kept saying to myself, "What just happened" What did he just do"" His sets are so enthralling, they really grab your attention. Instead of wasting your time trying to accurately describe this, I thought I would put up a few segments of sets he has done. This one shows how he can take songs of different genres and make them produce a symbiotic result. This is from a set he did at Lindsey Lohans birthday party. It starts with Crooklyn Clan"s "Thug Anthem 2000", then comes Franz Ferdinand"s "Take Me Out", and then that gets mixed with Beastie Boys "Triple Trouble". That is AMazing! Segment 1 (Right Click and select “Save As”) This one shows one of AM"s trademarks. I don"t know what it is officially called but its like words from a song introduce the next song and so on. It starts with his take on Phantom Planet"s "California", and then goes to Dre and Tupac"s "Califonia Love", and then in that song when you hear Tupac say "give me that bomb beat from Dre", he slams in the start of "Nuthin but a G" Thing" and then mixes in Notorious BIG! Segment 2 (Right Click and select “Save As”) Since you will be going to this, you will want to get there early. The doors open at 9pm and the cost is only 20$! That is a pittance to see this guy! I wouldn"t think twice about paying 3 times that amount! Considering the fee he commands, that is a bargain! You will need to get there early because the line will be like nothing you have ever seen. I have a feeling they are going to be at capacity before midnight. The Forum has hinted that there will be many more surprises that night, but are not revealing details. You"ll just have to find out for yourself. I also need to mention that Forum resident DJs, DirtyThirty and Supa Skip will be backing up AM. Both are very talented, have done big things themselves, and use Serato Scratch Live like AM. SSL is the wave of the future, and allows DJs to do what was once impossible. With these three in the booth, Friday night is going to be quite possibly the event of the YEAR! And with all due respect to other establishments and DJs here in Charlotte, if you go to see any other DJ that night" not a smart move. It will kind of be like going to see a cover band, when the real band is in town. See ya there!
