Charleston, SC " October 27, 2007 " Lowcountry Environmental Education Programs (LEEP) will host its first "Costumes for a Cause" Halloween Ball on Saturday October 27, 2007 at 10 Storehouse Row in the Navy Yard at Noisette. The event will be held from 7:00 PM-Midnight and admission is $35/person or $60/couple the day of the event. Admission includes all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, heavy hors"derves, and dessert. Jarod Charzewski (www.jarodcharzewski.com), a renowned installation artist, sculptor and visiting professor at the College of Charleston, along with his studio art students will be designing art for this event made entirely out of found, recycled, and natural objects. There will be also be a celebrity-judged costume contest (celebrities TBA) and an amazing silent auction with items such as a one-night stay at the Renaissance, dinner for two at Wentworth Grill, a couple of spa packages from Spa Adagio a 90 minute consultation with a top-notch landscape architect from Down to Earth in Mt. Pleasant, and the list goes on. This year"s zero waste event goes beyond recycling by taking a "whole system" approach to environmental stewardship. LEEP"s mission, both in and out of the classroom, is to inspire the community to respect and care for the environment through education. Those same standards will be applied to "Costumes for a Cause" by not just managing waste, but eliminating it through careful planning and forethought. All food will come in recyclable or reusable packaging, all flyers will be printed on recycled or used paper, and linens will be donated which will be laundered for guest use. The "Costumes for a Cause" menu consists of variety of foods that not only come in minimal packaging, but do not require utensils and are 100% compostable. This will all be possible through the dedication of LEEP volunteers.
