As most people know, I tend to follow the local music scene and, yeah, I listen to a lot (and I mean A LOT) of bands. But if you wanna have an 80"s flashback of some hard rock with a 90"s flair"there"s one band that covers that; a cover band known as i Am i. I got the privilege to hear this trio on February 13th at Sand Shack Bar & Grill over on Ashley Phosphate Rd. The mixture of 80"s music with some of their original music comprised a great night of rock "n" roll. The band consists of Jim Ratcliffe (of Party Mouth fame) on drums, Joe Hanna (of My (R)evolution fame) on guitar and Jeff Califiore (of Joy Ride fame) on bass. All three perform vocals, which lends to the sound produced by the band. With songs from the likes of Tom Petty, Modern English, AC/DC, Cracker, U2, Radiohead, the Ramones, Soul Asylum, Collective Soul, Tonic, Michael Jackson, Alien Ant Farm, Fuel, Better Than Ezra, and Dave Matthews; a music lover can"t go wrong.
i Am i was formed back in 1999 and became known as one of the best local bands around during 2000-2003. At which time, guitarist Joe took a 5 year hiatus and began writing new and original material. This soon emerged into a band known as My (R)evolution. In 2008, i Am i reunited as their original cover band and started booking once again to help My (R)evolution cover the costs of recording sessions for their original music. Once that was accomplished, i Am i once again went onto the back burner and have re-retired""
"for now.
During the performance on February 13th, I was lucky enough to meet Joe, Jeff and Jim. These are some talented musicians and I have to agree with the members of other bands, who had mentioned that Jim was "the nicest guy in the music business". I do hope that i Am i has not completely retired, since everyone that fateful evening of their last performance agreed in saying that these were some talented guys and they hope that they will get the privilege of catching another i Am i show again in the future.
