The College of Charleston’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter along with Charleston Beerworks will host the 2nd annual Charleston Rockstock music festival in support of Carolina Empowerment Group on Friday April 17, 2009 at the Visitor"s Bus Terminal downtown on John Street from 7-11 p.m. The festival will feature four local bands including The Valkyrie, Plainfield Project, Cougar Magnum and Number One Contender. The official Rockstock after party will take place at Charleston Beerworks, located at 468 King Street. Tickets for the event are $5 and can be purchased at the Stern Student Center on George St, at the door or on the Charleston Rockstock Web site. Food and alcohol will be sold separately. Free Firefly Vodka drinks will be offered while supplies last. Other sponsors include Charleston City Paper, Offset Impressions, Firefly Vodka, Zafari, inc. and Mellow Mushroom. Proceeds will benefit the PRSSA chapter and Carolina Empowerment Group, a non-profit community organization that conducts educational and informational activities that increase public awareness about health disparities impacting the community including: HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and teenage pregnancy. The fund raiser was created to promote Carolina Empowerment Group (CEG), PRSSA and local bands. The event allows PRSSA members to get hands-on event planning experience while promoting HIV/AIDS awareness, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. A portion of the event"s proceeds go to CEG.
