Remember in my last CNL: Undercover article, I mentioned there were bands that performed a variety of music" Those who have no set playlist and can pull from all different genres of music"that"s the type of variety that is done by Stoneking. Rowdy Nites, of WEZL and Q104.5 fame, has a saying; "A little bit country, a little bit rock "n" roll, but a ROWDY good time." That would describe Stoneking to a perfect "T"; as long as you also throw in a little bit of soul with that country and rock "n" roll. With a totally new lineup of members (since the last time I caught a show), Rich has put together a group that has a harmony that just won"t quit. Along with Rich playing the acoustic guitar, David (of Numb 909 fame) has joined playing bass along with Kyle on the skins, bringing the beat to the music and Eric (of Swyrl fame) on the electric guitar. This dynamic group of musicians is making their presence known once again in the Charleston music scene. When I pulled in at KC Mulligan"s on a Friday night, I heard Bon Jovi"s "Wanted Dead or Alive" being belted out. As the night went on, the extensive list grew with Eagles, Tonik, Zac Brown Band, Disturbed, Tool, John Mellencamp and even some Stevie Ray Vaughn. Also adding to their variety, Curtis of Virgil Kane joined the band onstage for a couple of songs. Talk about a WOW factor! Mulligan"s rocked all night long! I was able to sit down with David, the bass player, for a chit-chat. He explained that since this new member line up has come together, it has added to their variety and their fan base has grown and doesn"t consist of just those who love their rock "n" roll, but also fans who love their country and those who love their classic rock. Well, there"s one thing I can say for sure, and that"s the fact that the entire night David had a smile on his face; and to this observer and photographer, that"s a rare sight and I hope to see more of his smile in the future. For more information about Stoneking, visit their MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/stonekingrocks. Make sure you get out and catch one of their shows, and you too, will come to enjoy the music and see for yourself why Stoneking are the "Kings" of Variety.
