Dinner: Hefs Bar and Grill
Drinks: Brazwells Premium Pub
I met a friend at Hefs for dinner. I found it an odd choice being in a strip mall type of place but, quickly warmed to the outside atmosphere. They had a pretty decent beer special for a Saturday night and music playing in the center court area. It was a little hippie and hipster all mixed together, complete with a baby in a diaper only running around by himself. If you are not a fan of kids running around while their parents drink a little wine and ignore their OUTSIDE voices you might want to sit inside (though its smoky in there so you are warned). The service was friendly and relatively quick and the food was very, very good. I had the Smokin Blonde which had smoked turkey, bacon, cucumber, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, and Italian dressing on a warm croissant. I also was delighted I could get chips and salsa instead of fries and the salsa was clearly homemade. Little things make me happy well most of the time but, I digress. Apparently they are famous for their burgers which are made there so they can cook them below medium if you are a fan.
We then walked over to the bar scene on Montford. If you are familiar with the area you know its mostly dives, so I dressed appropriately in a white flow-y skirt and Widespread Panic t-shirt (oh fashion choices arent usually included in reviews you say? Too bad youre getting it, plus its relevant so hold on). We decide to check out Brazwells which if you havent heard is the newly renovated Press Box. We walk in and it is practically sparkling in there. Everything is bright and shiny and new and soooo not a dive bar anymore. Also? These are not my people tonight. Its like douche-bags and perfect highlights everywhere. So if you would like your next partner to wear a t-shirt with a metallic dragon on it or a halter top with its own jewelry then this is your place. We stay mainly because the outside is jut gorgeous. The deck area is huge, built around the trees and has a bar outside which is very convenient. They had plenty of good drink specials and my tab was reasonable for a weekend night. The place was packed and Im not sure it thats because its a relatively new spot to check out or if because all the fabulous people in the area are super happy to have a new home. So overall the bar is very nice if you are ready for the atmosphere. Next time Ill come armed with my Seven jeans I bought at Marshalls.
