Anyone who’s been to the Forum on more than one occasion has likely run into local hottie and familiar face at the door, Erin O. I had the opportunity to sit down with her recently to talk with her at Solstice Tavern in NoDa and she’s much more than just a pretty face at the door. She’s an intelligent, witty, and extremely involved member of Charlotte’s nightlife community.
She’s been in the music business for over 10 years, starting out running the door at Platinum, the drum & bass night in Philadelphia, for Dieselboy & Chris Chaos; That’s where she acquired the moniker “The Secretary”. Her willingness to take on projects like manning the light board and other various tasks earned her the title that she uses to this day. Her handiwork can be seen in clubs all around Charlotte. She’s made all of the drapery at Cosmo’s, The Alley Cat and the Forum as well as crafted the ceiling drapery at Cosmo’s Ballantyne location. She assists with artist needs like airport runs, FedEx/Kinko’s trips, makes sure they’re fed; To say Erin is multifaceted is an understatement.
“The most rewarding experience I’ve had while working at the Forum has been on the days when I’ve worked really hard on some seasonal decorations…” Her face lighting up as she recalls her success; “I love getting to see people’s reactions. When I’m at the front I have a great view of the bar and part of the stage. I love to see people just taking it all in.”
When asked how she copes with working a day job that starts early in the morning she explains; “I feel responsible and I enjoy doing what I do.”
She says “I’m looking forward to PROPERsunday, 8/30 at Tuttos for dubstep all day. We’re having brunch and cooking out on the BBQ. It’s free and it’s my birthday party! After that I’m really excited for Kevin Mitchell’s birthday when Wolfgang Gardner is coming the Forum. That’ll be a blast.”
Erin can be reached at propersecretary@yahoo.com if you’d like more information on her seamstress work or can be found working the door, smiling and having a great time at the Forum. Say hi when you see her out!
