So there is a new hang out spot in Uptown that I like a lot. It is called Molly MacPhersons Scottish Pub & Grill. It has been open for a little while now but I wanted to check it out a few times on different nights to get a feel for the place.
First let me give you some background info. This venue has been through a couple of different concepts over the years. The two most recent were Twist and then some sports bar place I cant even remember the name of exactly (it wasnt around long).
Twist was years ago. This was before the EpiCentre and NC Music Factory. Before nightclubs like Suite and Butter. Twist back in the day was a hot spot nightclub hang out. Their downfall in my opinion was the layout of the main bar. It was situated in the middle of the main room, drastically cutting into their space and functionality of the bar to service the room adequately.
The second concept at this location was a sports bar. The layout was fine but a block away from their location was Stool Pigeons which already had the sports bar following in Forth Ward Neighborhood. I think it was just too hard to compete with that.
Now, here comes Molly MacPhersons Scottish Pub. I am not too sure of any other truly Scottish pubs in Charlotte (maybe Sir Edmond Halleys behind Park Road Shopping Center).
Mollys comes to town at a great time in my opinion. I think people are looking for something else other than EpiCenter, something more low-key. Mollys is perfect for that. Very friendly and welcoming to everyone.
Known for their single-malt Scotch collection, Mollys is a chain started in Georgia (locations in Savannah and Richmond Hill). The pub has a great history which you can read about on their menu. I wont spoil it and let you read about it on your own!
Anyhow, all and all, this place rocks. It has a great layout, great staff, comfortable and laid back atmosphere. I cant wait to try their Shepards Pie.
Mollys is open 7 days a week from 11am to close.
