  There is a huge movement going on in Plaza-Midwood area. BOYCOTT the Penguin? Surely they can not mean the same super popular, Charlotte staple, the Penguin on Commonwealth Ave?

  Yes, indeed they do!

  The long and short of the story is the property and the name "The Penguin" are owned by Ballentine Family Investments LLC, more specifically, Jimmy Ballentine.

  After two consecutive five-year leases the current owners Brian Rowe and Jimmy King are being pushed out through unacceptable negotiation terms.

  (This article isn't meant to be an opinion piece but it sure seems like the Ballentine people simply want a piece of the huge pie The Penguin has made for itself.)

  The fury of Penguin fans has sparked a boycotting epidemic on Facebook. The event page on Facebook (probably should have been set up as a Page or a group) is now over 3,600 people! You can check the Facebook page our here: Boycott the Penguin as of Oct. 24th.

  I suppose the boycotters will strongly support Rowe, King, and Kastanas' new restaurant, The Diamond Restaurant, that should open around late October.

  Obviously, there are always two sides of a story. However, it doesn't seem like the Ballentine Family Investment LLC people care to make much of any statement whatsoever.

  My suggestion to ole Jimmy is to make a public statement ASAP before this goes any further. People want to know why they are doing this to a Charlotte icon restaurant?
