GaGa Day is back!!
Last year on January 29, Marion Square was filled with over 1,000 Lady Gaga fans who raised $3000 for the American Red Cross and the Haiti Relief Fund. Pictures of this local event found their way into a book by author, Johnny Morgan. The book entitled, GAGA, featured a picture taken from GaGa Day in the Square in a two page spread! This year, Gaga Day is back at Joe Riley Park!
Joe Quinn, founder of Gaga Day, explained the new location by saying: "During my meeting with the city the idea was brought up to have the next GaGa day at Joe Riley Park. The thought to have it at the Joe honestly never crossed my mind, so when I heard that they were on board and excited to host it I was ecstatic! I'm not sure how many baseball parks have hosted a Gaga-themed dance party on their fields, but I'm pretty confident that this will be another first for Charleston. Even if you don't like Lady GaGa's music, you can still come and have an awesome time dancing on a baseball field while raising money for a great cause!" Having the event at the RiverDogs Stadium allows for the use of a great sound system, videos, pictures and sponsor advertisement on the jumbotron.
This year's event will feature giveaways, contests, prizes and of course dancing to Gaga songs! The winner of the Gaga Costume Contest will receive a pair of tickets to Charleston Fashion Week for Thursday, March 24th. Ayoka Lucas, Style Editor for Charleston Magazine, will be one of the judges.
The event has no admission charge but a donation is suggested to help defray the cost of the venue and to benefit The Trevor Project. T-shirts will also be sold to benefit this charity, which is the leading national organization focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth. Every day, The Trevor Project saves young lives through its free and confidential lifeline, in-school workshops, educational materials, online resources and advocacy. For more information, visit www.TheTrevorProject.org.
Concession stands will be open for food and drink purchases, and alcoholic beverages for those over 21 (IDs will be checked).
Sponsorship opportunites are still available to help cover the costs of using the venue and staffing; including police, EMT, vendors, clean up crew, ground crew, etc. If your business would like to help sponsor this worthwhile event, please contatct Jessica Reid at CharlestonBliss@gmail.com for more information.
Don't miss the next GaGa Day at Joseph P. Riley Park (Riverdogs Stadium)! See you there- January 22nd from 5pm to 7pm!
