The Charleston RiverDogs bring the spirit of the classic movie favorite, Forrest Gump, to life in the 8th Annual Run Forrest Run 5K Race and Fun Run. The race benefits the work of the MUSC Storm Eye Institute and will be held at Joe Riley Stadium on Saturday, May 21, at 5:00 p.m.
The 5K begins in front of Joe Riley Park and winds through Hampton Park before finishing at home plate on the baseball field, where participants will be greeted by RiverDogs baseball players, Charlie T. RiverDog, and other mascots. The course is TAC certified and features split times and water hydration stations at each mile marker. This year, chip timing will be utilized to insure quick and accurate timing. The event will be held rain or shine.
The race is sure to be fun for participants of all ages and all levels. Registration onsite and online is $35 and includes a race packet, one ticket to that evening's RiverDogs game, in-game awards ceremony (held in 5-year increments), and a post-race party with dinner provided by Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Bubba Gump Shrimp Company's very own Forrest Gump will be on hand to signal the start of the race and pose for pictures with fans throughout the evening.
Participants have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets for family and friends for the May 21st RiverDogs vs. Greenjackets game for $7 each. These may be picked up with the race packet. Packets may be picked up Thursday and Friday, May 19th and 20th, at the stadium between 3:00 7:00 p.m, and on race day, at Guest Services, from 12:00 4:30 p.m.
So lace up your running shoes, rent a copy of Forrest Gump, grab a box of chocolates, and jog on down to Riley Park for the Run Forrest Run 5K and Fun Run. With the Charleston RiverDogs hosting the event You never know what youre gonna get!
