It is not the most creative of date nights, but a dinner and movie is classic. Everyone loves to eat and fade away into the imagination of a good movie. Mez in Charlotte is perfect for both. Easily accessible by the Lynx Light Rail and the EpiCentre station, you don’t have to drive and worry about parking in Uptown, an extra perk to this date night. Mez does validate parking in the EpiCentre parking deck upon request. If you do drive, make sure you take advantage of that!
The first thing you notice about Mez is not what you would expect, it’s the smell. Walking in you are taken back by the vanilla smell of their ticketing area downstairs. At first I thought it might be my date, but no such luck. The smell really gets you in the mood for a great night.

Mez is a beautifully designed restaurant with high ceilings and upscale decor. As you walk in you are welcomed by a quick glance at the kitchen, a little peak at the chef’s playground. The actual dining area is very intimate with few tables. The lighting is perfect. People really hate when restaurants make it overly dark in an attempt to create an intimate atmosphere. Mez has it dialed in.

Mez’s menu is diverse with a great seasonal selection. The first impressive aspect of the menu is the small plate items. We had the fire-roasted mussels tonight but I have had the chicken skewers in the past as well. Both are amazing. The mussels were large and well juiced in sauce.

For the main course I could not resist the lobster tail with creamy white cheddar mac and cheese. You honestly can’t go wrong with lobster. It is always great. However, like a school kid, I seemed to get addicted to the mac and cheese.

Being unique seems to be Mez’s mission statement. One of the most unique aspects of Mez is their partnering movie theater (EpiCentre Theaters). The five theaters offer Real D 3D and some of the most popular films playing throughout the year.

The theater is filled with oversized seats. The best part of the dinner and movie date was the theater’s love seats! When you check in at the ticketing window you have the option of selecting your seat. Make sure you pick one of the love seats!

All and all, Mez is a great bet for a memorable dinner and movie date.
