BackDharma Lounge Charlotte
The Dharma Lounge, an eclectic and enchanting fusion of art, entertainment, music and musing opened in Charlotte's trendy Camden area of South End in September, 2009.
The name derives from the Buddhist's belief that following one's 'dharma' - or path - will lead to enlightened nightlife.
Embracing the 'dharma' concept, partners Eric Pliner and Lora Campbell sincerely intend the lounge to give back to the community. As well as a stylish way to spend an evening, the lounge is designed as a venue to showcase local artists and artisans alike.
"Charlotte has an abundance of local talent", explained Pliner, "musicians, artists, dancers, fashion designers and hair-stylists all have one thing in common, they need support as well as a place to show their work", he added.
"We see the Dharma Lounge as bridging two needs in the community; offering a sophisticated lounge venue as well as an expansive backdrop for independent talent", said Pliner.
Free yoga classes will be offered on weekend afternoons and monthly charity events are in the plans. Ultimately a percentage of the cover charge will be donated to local charities. In so doing the pair anticipates that surrounding bars and restaurants might follow their example and expand their community involvement.
The 3.000 sq. foot space ensures an intimate atmosphere and decor revolves around all natural materials creating an organic feel.
Central to an evening at the Dharma Lounge will be the music. Pliner and Campbell agree that music is the key to unlocking creativity. Their goal is to enable guests to reach that place where they're creating consciousness through music and art.
The Dharma Lounge will open Wednesdays through Sundays, 8.00 p.m. - 2 00 a.m., and is available for private parties, art, fashion and hair shows, corporate functions - and a path to enlightened nightlife.
